Vertical Planning

Early in the 1980s, the Danforth Foundation of St. Louis, Missouri initiated the concept of the vertical team (Cunningham & Gresso, 1993). The vertical team concept was one component of the School Administrators Fellowship Program, and it was structured to achieve four specific goals. These goals included;

  1. collegiality,
  2. professional growth,
  3. school improvement, and
  4. transition.

The goals were viewed as tools for building team cohesion and a culture of support within the school.
