Literary Magazine

Our Reading Department promotes student publishing as an excellent reinforcement of reading strategies. Our school-wide literary magazine, Paw Prints, springs from an annual after-school program that develops such literary and journalistic skills as writing, revising, editing and graphic design. Here on Paw Prints Online, we feature some fine samples of student writing and artwork from Grades 1-5. Please enjoy these current student works and look for new samples as our web site is updated. We are proud of the creativity and enthusiasm of Barka students!

Note: this material should not be used for any reason unless written permission is granted by the Derry Cooperative District and the owner.

Out My Window

    tree

Yesterday morning I looked out my window. I saw my swing. It was rocking back and forth very slowly. The big tree was swaying very fast. The snow was beating against the ground. The snow piles were getting bigger. The rock was covered in snow. The white snow looked cold. It seemed like the stained blue sky would never fade away. That day I had so much fun.

snowman

Out my window I see a white snowman getting buried. All the birds are flying south and my green sled is slipping! The snowman is wearing an orange scarf and a black hat with a yellow flower. All that tumbling snow is making me dizzy. The orange scarf is ruffling in the breeze. All the birds are swirling in and out of the swaying trees. The trees have lime green pine needles and dark chocolate trunks. That is what I see out my window.
